I was very impressed at how you delivered such a harrowing personal tale at yesterday’s EDF presentation. Your story is an all too familiar tale in our industry. You were one of the few to survive. You through your talks, will make people think twice when working at height. You will never ever know if you have saved someone from a similar fate, but the answer is, you have probably done that already.

I would like to sincerely thank you for coming to site and sharing your safety message with us last week. Your story is a truly inspirational one and has had a huge impact on the site. Many people I have spoken to since have remarked on your courage and how clear the message of not being complacent and reflecting on the impact a safety incident can have on those around you in particular your family.

After you gave us your talk a few years back in Grangemouth, I got home and was met by my daughter at the door. I gave her a big cuddle and told her basically what happened to you. As I was telling her the tears started rolling down her face and that’s when it hit me the hardest. It’s not just us that our actions affect and that’s what is more important to me.

I’ve worked in the industrial sector for many years and I’ve seen lots of safety awareness presentations and accident stories etc but yours hit a raw nerve and was the best I’ve seen. I think because you were an Scaffolder like me and because of your background of working at height, it kind of makes you “one of us” and it shows how easily an accident can happen and how your accident could have been avoided, if others with knowledge of the dodgy handrail, had taken some simple measures to warn of what was effectively a death trap.
